A rotting peach, Santa Rosa plum, or Pixie tangerine is a sad thing. One little fruit tree often produces more fruit than a single family can harvest and consume before the fruit falls to the ground or the yellow jackets begin buzzing around. Even with good neighbors and a mason jar factory line, sometimes all the fruit doesn't get put up.
Think "Share". It's what we call your CSA box- a share of the farm. Some CSA members experience stone fruit famines and others are wealthy in citrus & avocados. Sharing is a great way to build community- if you have extra fruit, will you share? There is a new "Share" bin at the Art Barn, Rio Gozo Ventura CSA pick up site. Let's fill it up and be fruitful.
If your over abundance of Fruit is extreme, call me (805 272 8170) or there are gleaning groups in Ventura Co. such as Food Share Inc. who help distribute extra fruit to food banks or charities.
Share,
Rio Gozo Farm Ventura CSA
